The case

We are advising a community river quality campaigning group on the establishment of a partnership agreement with the area’s water company. The proposed partnership agreement concerns transparency and monitoring of storm overflow spills and the quality of the River Dart, including the sharing and publication of data.

This is a novel approach to engagement between river campaign groups and water companies as it enables our client to work in partnership with the water company to improve standards, beyond the typical approach of external campaigning.

This matter has involved scoping and identifying our client’s objectives for the partnership agreement and conducting careful negotiation between our client and South West Water to successfully promote a collaborative approach to improving the River Dart.

The eventual implementation of this partnership agreement could form the model for the establishment of similar agreements between community groups and water companies across the country.
